Van Horn Opens New Little Theatre

The renaissance of Van Horn High School continues as the school celebrated the opening of the new Little Theatre.

The theatre opened with a special dedication on Thursday, October 6.  Matt and Kathy Mallinson, both Van Horn alumni, played a critical role in getting the theatre reopened.  Kathy was a theater student while at Van Horn.  Matt sits on the Independence Board of Education.

The theatre was a popular place among students during the ‘60’s and 70’s.  Over the years, the theatre was removed and eventually became storage place.

After some hard work and fundraising the theatre was renovated complete with a stage, lighting and seating for 80.

The Mallinsons spoke at the ceremony as well as Principal Greg Netzer, Board President Ken Johnston, State Senator Victor Callahan and Bob Klamm, a retired Van Horn teacher, who taught in the Little Theatre for 20 years.

The ceremony closed with a performance by two Van Horn students.

The Little Theatre will host live performances, guest speakers and conferences.
