Van Horn Students Attend Ballet

On Tuesday, February 22, 216 Van Horn High School students attended the ballet performance of Romeo and Juliet at the Kauffman Center for Performing Arts.  Tickets for the performance were gifted or discounted through Linda Martin, director of Kansas City Ballet’s Community Outreach Program.

Students who attended the performance had previously read the Shakespeare play in their English classes, but for many students this was the first time they had attended a ballet.

“It’s fun to guess what scene they’re performing if you know the story,” said freshman Erika Rabago.

The beautiful Kauffman Center was also an experience for most students.

“The whole place was cool,” said sophomore Brandon Grouse.

“You walk in and you’re blinded by a whole wall of glass.  It’s so bright and white, and the theater is so dark,” said sophomore Leeland Lityma.

For all students, it was an experience they’ll never forget.
