Chrisman Students Participate in Read Across America Day

Seventy-nine William Chrisman students participated in Read Across America on Friday, March 2, by going to eight different elementary schools and reading to the classes there.

The participating elementary schools were Chrisman’s feeder schools:  Benton, Bryant, Mill Creek, Ott, Procter, Santa Fe, and Spring Branch.  One of Chrisman’s hearing-impaired students also read to the hearing-impaired children at William Southern, which was a great opportunity for all involved.

William Chrisman’s readers were students who had met their Accelerated Reading point goal for first semester.  These students were invited to read because they are good role models for the younger students who are being encouraged to make reading a big part of their lives.  Most of the readers got to go to the elementary schools that they had once attended.

Read Across America is a nation-wide effort to promote reading.  It is usually celebrated on March 2 in honor of Dr. Seuss’s birthday.

The program at William Chrisman is coordinated by Karen Burch Dickens, William Chrisman’s library media specialist.
