Blackburn Elementary celebrates a milestone!

Blackburn Elementary School celebrates 50 years of education!

IMG_3905Blackburn Elementary School opened its doors for the first time in December, 1962 and was named for Jackson County Schools Superintendent, L.F. Blackburn.

Blackburn held an assembly where students and staff commemorated the grand milestone.

Dr. Jim Hinson and Board of Education member Ken Johnston both spoke during the assembly.

Students read pieces of work they wrote to describe the big event, performed a skit dedicated to anything 50 years and older and also sang a song to wish Blackburn Happy Birthday.

The entire assembly was recorded and will be placed in time capsule for students in the future to take a look at how the major milestone was celebrated.

The school also hosted an open house and invited former and current students, staff, parents and the community  to IMG_3920show the community what has changed and what has stayed the same over the years.

Guests took a tour of the school, had their picture taken for the time capsule, wrote their favorite memories of Blackburn, viewed memorabilia, added a link to the Blackburn Birthday chain, and watched the video that was created to celebrate Blackburn.
