Santa Fe Trail MAP Literacy and Scholarship Fund a Winterfest Success!
Santa Fe Trail families braved the cold to enjoy a warm meal of spaghetti and learn more about the literacy initiatives implemented in the Independence School District on Thursday, January 24th. Comprehension strategies and example lessons were modeled from Jolly Phonics, Making Meaning and Reader’s Workshop targeting the literacy goals to increase student achievement for the Map Assessment. Parents had the opportunity to attend breakout sessions of their choice to learn more about the new curriculum.
The evening was also highlighted by the Santa Fe Trail first graders singing songs about literacy and learning. A raffle for themed baskets created by Santa Fe Trail Elementary Staff topped off the successful attendance and participation by raising an additional $500 for the Santa Fe Trail Scholarship Fund.
Santa Fe Trail has partnered with the Independence School District Foundation to bestow two $500 scholarships to a former Santa Fe Trail student that graduates from a high school in the Independence School District. Leadership and criteria are highlighted as a part of meeting the scholarship requirements. The winners of the scholarship will be future speakers at a Santa Fe Trail Character Education Assembly.
This is the first year for the scholarship fund to be instituted at Santa Fe Trail Elementary.
