Cold weather will not be a concern when runners, joggers and walkers line up for the third annual Pound the Ground for the Kids Adventure Run Saturday, Jan. 24 at 8:30 a.m. inside The Caves in Space Center Executive Park, 1500 West GeoSpace Dr. in Independence. While hundreds will line the indoor, climate-controlled course for the run, the real winner will be the Independence Council of PTAs and ISD school students. Registration proceeds go to any ISD school’s PTA the participant chooses.

“PTAs are a vital part of each and every school in Independence,” said Kathlyn Hardin, 2015 committee chair. “They provide their schools with programs, resources and services including field trips, activity nights, picnics, assemblies and other hands‐on, interactive experiences and presentations.”

“ISD PTAs are a support system for our schools that we couldn’t do without, and by taking part in this fundraiser, you are helping them, help students throughout the year,” said Dr. Dale Herl, ISD superintendent.

Sponsored by the Independence Council of PTAs and several local businesses, the Pound the Ground for the Kids Adventure Run not only encourages students and the community to participate in healthier lifestyle choices and activities, it is a way for individual schools to raise money using the resources and reach of the Independence Council of PTAs.
