Chrisman Student Named Kansas City Special Olympics Athlete of the Year

LuncefieldWilliam Chrisman student Michael Lunceford was named the Kansas City Special Olympics Athlete of the Year. He was honored for his sportsmanship and work with the Special Olympics program.

Lunceford, active in many Special Olympics sports at William Chrisman, has performed well at regional and state competitions and last summer competed in bowling at the 2014 Special Olympics Summer USA Games in New Jersey. During the summer games, he received two gold medals and a fourth-place ribbon.

Lunceford’s perseverance in Special Olympics has paid off in other areas of his life too. While in high school, he participated in woodshop and won several state awards for his woodworking projects.  He loves to play the drums and got to play them in a special education production of The Lion King. He is currently part of a transition program between his school and a local medical center where he is working on job and life skills.
