Southern Teachers Serving Burgers, Fries and a Scholarship

There were lots of familiar faces staffing the counter and the ‘drive thru window’ on the 40 Highway McDonalds. Teachers from William Southern Elementary left the classroom and enrolled for a night at Hamburger U- all for a good cause. Teachers worked at the restaurant to raise money for the school’s ‘Southern Stars’ scholarship.

Established in 1997, the ‘Southern Stars’ scholarship provides funds to a graduating high school senior from Southern to further his/her education. Applicants must demonstrate outstanding strength of character in their personal lives and be active in their school, church and community to be considered. The ‘Southern Stars’ scholarship is presented at the Truman Scholarship Award night in May.
