Truman High School sophomore Jazzmine Matchett is a finalist in the 2nd Annual MAKE IT! high school film/video competition. The Film & Digital Media Department at Avila University will hold a screening of the top selections and announce the winners Saturday, April 11.

Matchett, who is also President of the student organization Stomping Out Depression, submitted a video about ‘Happiness.’

“My video is about what happiness is to people and where the world is standing statistically on it,” Matchett said, “as well as actions people can take to make themselves happier.”

The project was just a simple assignment for her Intro to Media class, but her media teacher Robyn King suggested she enter the video into the Avila contest.

“It was an amazing achievement for me to become a finalist in this contest because that means it spoke to someone out there and that’s all I ever wanted to get out of making it,” Matchett said. “Making someone happier through my films and writing has always been happiness to me.”
