VH WC Royals 1For a day, Van Horn and William Chrisman baseball players made it to ‘The Show.’ Instead of Eric Hosmer, Alex Gordon, Lorenzo Cain and the rest of the American League Champion Royals taking the field at Kauffman Stadium, it was the Falcons and Bears. The teams were given the unique opportunity to play their April 11 game at ‘The K’ by selling ticket vouchers for upcoming Royals games this spring and summer. Each school had to sell 1,000- together, they combined to sell more than 3,000! For coaches and players alike, playing in a Major League ballpark was a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

“Playing our rival was exciting in itself, but what made the experience even more special was playing the game at Kauffman Stadium,” said Jay Kolster, Van Horn’s baseball coach. “Our players were very appreciative of the Royals organization for allowing us to play on their field.”

“Playing at Kauffman Stadium is a dream of any high school baseball player,” said Bears Baseball Coach J.R. Wells. “It’s a chance to walk on the same field as some of the greatest players ever in Major League Baseball.

“We were very fortunate to have this opportunity to play at Kauffman Stadium and I know it was something the kids really looked forward to.”

Not only did the players and fans get the full ‘game day’ experience, each team got money from the Royals to pay for new uniforms. Van Horn won the game 3-1.
