William Chrisman ‘King’ Loved by His Subjects

Senior Prom is always a memorable night, but for William Chrisman’s Alec Belk, it was an evening he will never forget. Belk has a disorder similar to autism and ADHD, but he does not let that stop him from being a major positive force in the school. Because of that, his classmates honored him by voting him Prom King.

“It’s great to see him accomplish as much as he is,” his mother, Lisa Porter told Fox 4 News. “Graduation this year and prom, now he gets to put prom king on that.”

Belk participates in Special Olympics and plays basketball, bocce and golf.  During the school day, he helps stack chairs after lunch and clean tables in the atrium.  He also goes with his classmates to Harvesters twice a month to help sort and package food for the homeless.

His teachers speak about him glowingly. “Whenever we are in the hallways of Chrisman, Alec goes out of his way to say hello to other students and staff, even if he does not know them,” said Emily Webb, Chrisman special education teacher. “He always has a smile on his face. Students around the building know who he is because of his happy and welcoming demeanor.”

When Fox 4 asked him if he was going to take his crown off any time soon, Belk politely and quickly responded, “No!”
