Open Airways Makes Asthma Education Fun

Posted May 12, 2015

The ISD and the City of Independence Health Department welcomed more than 100 to Open Airways, an evening for elementary-aged children with asthma, inside the Glendale Elementary School gymnasium.

“It was a fun and educational night,” said Lori Halsey, the ISD’s director of health services.

Open Airways featured games, food and prizes for the youngsters and educational speakers for the ‘young at heart.’ Two students won bicycles and Mallinson Elementary received a gift card for having the most students in attendance.

“I hope the parents and children who came received valuable information to help them face the challenges asthma can present,” said Dee Hampton, public health nurse.
