District, ATS HeartCheck Providing Voluntary Heart Screening for Students August 1

Posted July 10, 2015

ISD students (age 10 and older) can receive a voluntary heart screening for $99 Saturday, Aug. 1 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. inside the Truman High School library. This optional opportunity is provided by ATS HeartCheck, a local screening organization supported by area cardiologists.

“Undiagnosed heart conditions are estimated to claim the lives of 135 children a week,” said Levi Hinson, ISD wellness coordinator. “That’s 7,000 children a year! The sad part is most can be prevented.”

A limited number of heart screenings are available and include an electrocardiogram (EKG), echocardiogram (heart ultrasound) and blood pressure test. Financial assistance is available through the ATS HeartCheck website: ATSHeartCheck.com.

“These tests are simple and painless,” Hinson said, “and can detect whether your child has a heart abnormality.”

Preregistration is required through the ATS HeartCheck website. Go to the online scheduler and select ‘Independence’ on the appointment locator or call (913) 735-5760 for more information.
