JROTC Cadets Return to Chrisman

CHS Clr Grd 2For those attending the William Chrisman/Platte County football game August 21, it was a sight unseen at the high school for several decades. Pre-game ceremonies featured cadets from Chrisman’s new JROTC program.

“I believe that was the first time in 40 years William Chrisman JROTC students have presented the colors,” said Principal Mike Becker. It was their first school support event- not too bad for a group that’s only been in existence less than two weeks.

“They looked good,” said retired Army Lt. Col. Mike Byrd, senior JROTC instructor at Van Horn High School. “The cadets were excited and the cadet parents were very proud.” Byrd credited Army 1st Sgt. Roger Stoll, Chrisman’s JROTC instructor, for having his students prepared so quickly. “Kudos to 1st Sgt. for having his cadets identified, trained, outfitted and on the field in just a matter of days,” Byrd said. “It was a great success.”

This is the first year for the JROTC program at both William Chrisman and Truman High School.
