Truman’s Team Starts Speech/Debate Season With Two First Place Finishes

Truman High School’s speech and debate season is off to a rousing start, taking first place in varsity Sweepstakes and capturing five individual first place finishes in back-to-back tournaments at Blue Springs South and Park Hill. Truman’s speakers and debaters outshined 24 other schools at Park Hill- and fought past 28 area high schools at Blue Springs South. Sweepstakes points are earned by each school’s top two entries in each event, with additional points earned by debate wins and by advancing to the semifinal rounds and beyond.

Blue Springs South-

Duo Interpretation- Karly Kinsey and Alex Millard/first place

U.S. Extemporary- Andrew Huber/first place

Storytelling- Jaggard Williams/first place, Andrew Ramirez/third place and Jacob Snow/fourth place

Poetry Reading- Jordan Lingelbach/second place, Makayla Dowell/third place

Prose Reading- Faith Schulte/fifth place

Policy Debate- Eli Rojas and Derek Allgood/second place

 

Park Hill-

Radio Speaking- Karly Kinsey/second place, Eli Rojas/third place and Andrew Nickle/fifth place

Storytelling- Jaggard Williams/second place, Kayla Gerlt fourth place

Dramatic Interpretation- Jaggard Williams/first place, Alex Millard/second place

Policy Debate- Eli Rojas and Derek Allgood/fourth place

Public Forum Debate- Jaggard Williams and Kayla Gerlt/third place, Andrew Huber and Scott Bower/third place
