CSEP_logo_F[1]With an ever-present eye on the future, the ISD entered a partnership with the Carnegie STEM Excellence Pathway to enhance the district’s STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) initiatives.

“We already have an excellent STEM program in the ISD,” said Dr. Dale Herl, superintendent, “and the opportunity provided by the Carnegie STEM Excellence Pathway partnership further enhances our efforts while still using the three R’s- rigor, relevance and relationships -as our continued emphasis.”

Several ISD educators have participated in Carnegie-related advanced training courses and workshops to improve STEM course offerings and education. Through the partnership, the district enhances its ability to evaluate STEM instruction in six different areas: teacher qualifications, curriculum, instructional practices, assessment & demonstration of skills, family engagement and real-world connections. The ISD/Carnegie STEM Excellence Pathway partnership also enhances the district Academies of the ISD program, giving students additional exposure to science, technology, engineering and math careers.

“With an active STEM job market in the Kansas City area, filling the work-force needs of our community is critical,” Herl said. “The Carnegie partnership further provides our students with great hands-on opportunities in STEM-related fields.”
