The Caring Communities initiative connects families with a variety of supportive services and resources located in schools and neighborhoods. Caring Communities develops relationships with multiple partners to more effectively deliver services to families. Caring Communities sites use four main approaches:
* Develop comprehensive services and supports for families. The services are family-centered with a lot of input from the families themselves.
* Build on existing efforts and strengths of the school and community. The intention is not to duplicate these efforts, but rather, to expand services and supports for families and improve existing ones.
* Involve the community, parents and school in making decisions and designing the program.
* Focus on measurable results so the program is accountable.
Independence Caring Communities is an initiative of the Local Investment Commission (LINC), the Independence School District, and other state and local partners.
