The Independence Retired School Personnel Association was organized in 1965. We are one the oldest unit of Retired Teachers in the state. We keep our members informed of legislative issues on the local, state and national levels; educational issues, financial issues. We are associated with Missouri Retired Teachers and School Personnel Association (MRTA). We meet on the 2nd Friday of the months of March, May, September, and December at Bingham Middle School, 1716 S. Speck Rd, Independence, MO 64055. We have a time of visiting, a catered luncheon at noon with an informative or entertainment program at 12:45-2:00 pm. Independence Retired School Personnel has the largest local membership in the state of Missouri with 700 plus members as of this time. We encompass all school personnel-secretaries, custodians, cafeteria works, cooks, bus drivers, administrators, para-educators, and teachers in our group.

We do service projects for the Extreme Makeover of the Western Independence Schools, Community Services League, Midwest Foster Adoptive Families Association, Centerpoint Hospital Auxiliary, Salvation Army Christmas donations, Holiday Helpers with the Independence School District, various nursing homes, and several school projects. We also have a raffle at each luncheon to raise money for the Independence Retired School Personnel Association Scholarship Fund. We have four newsletters a year to keep our members informed both in print and on the web at the Independence District Website . We also go on Field Experiences at least 3 times a year such as touring the Kansas City STAR building, visiting the Lincoln Library in Springfield, Illinois, plays at the Heartland Theatre at Crown Center in Kansas City. Won’t you join us at a luncheon or become a member?   For more information contact Robie Mathews at chrismanbears@gmail.com.
