The Independence School District is proud to provide award-winning programs and services that support our students and their families. These programs serve as models of excellence across the nation.

The district has the distinction of being the School of the 21st Century (21C) National Demonstration site, because of its groundbreaking work in early education. Studies have shown the district's unique Van Iten Caring for kids project is keeping students safe when challenges occur in the home. The Independence School District is setting the bar nationally with its programs that ensure homeless students have equal educational opportunities.

Our programs and services incorporate early childhood programs, before and/or after school services, wellness education, nutrition services and family supports into each of our neighborhood schools.
