The Independence School District is dedicated to "Inspiring Greatness" in each and every student.

The district was accredited with "Distinction in Performance" this year for the third year in a row. The Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education awards that honor to a group of elite schools based on student achievement, graduation rate, attendance rate, and No Child Left Behind's performance measures, among other factors.

Truman High School has been chosen as a Model School by the International Center for Leadership in Education, one of only 20 schools in the nation to be chosen for that honor.
