The Independence School District has received the Early Childhood Education Program of the Year Award presented by the Missouri School Board Association. The award recognizes innovative early childhood education programs in the state of Missouri. MSBA representatives visited Sunshine Early Education Center to present the award and brought along a special visitor. Clifford the Big Red Dog gave hugs and high fives and thanks to Scholastic, gave 500 books along with the award.

The winner of the Early Childhood Education Program Award is chosen based on the support of child development, innovation, parent, family and community involvement, school readiness and commitment and leadership in the field. All eligible districts may apply, but only one district is chosen for this impressive recognition each year.

The ISD has one of the largest Early Education Programs in the state of Missouri, currently serving nearly 900 children under five years old in more than 60 classrooms. The ISD puts a strong emphasis on early education opportunities, understanding the critical importance of engaging early learners for a lifetime of successful education.
