Jackson County COMBAT

The ISD collaborates closely with Jackson County COMBAT (Community Backed Anti-Crime Tax) to enhance student safety, promote substance abuse prevention, and support mental health initiatives. This partnership integrates law enforcement, education, and community resources to create a supportive environment for students.

  • STEP Program: The Students Transitioning Exceptionally Prepared (STEP) program targets 5th and 8th grade students, focusing on topics such as bullying, vaping, drug and alcohol prevention, and conflict resolution. This initiative aims to equip students with the skills needed to navigate the challenges of transitioning between school levels.

  • Substance Use Prevention: In collaboration with the City of Independence, ISD supports substance use prevention classes for parents and guardians. Additionally, students participate in campaigns like "How Full is Your Cup?" and "Talk. They Hear You." to raise awareness about substance use and its effects.

  • Mental Health Support: The Comprehensive Mental Health PUSH program addresses the need for early intervention and trauma-informed practices. By funding assessment and diversion programs, this initiative helps students stay engaged in their education and reduces the likelihood of involvement in risky behaviors.

Through these collaborative efforts, ISD and Jackson County COMBAT are committed to fostering a safe and supportive learning environment where students can thrive academically and personally.
