Applications are now being accepted for GCB 2025 "Fairytales, Fables, and Folklore"

The 2025 dates are May 28-June 27, 2025, Monday through Friday, 8am to 1pm at MCC Blue River Campus

Fine arts students in grades 9-12 may enroll in the GCB Academy of the Arts summer program. The program is open to students from all public, private or parochial schools as well as home school students in Independence and the surrounding area.

Transportation, medical and photo/media releases must be submitted along with your transcripts and GCB application. Documents may be emailed, faxed, mailed or submitted in person to the Music/Arts Institute located at 1010 S. Pearl Street.

Areas of Study

Creative Media
Explore media platforms by publishing your work and develop proficiency with a variety of writing styles and outlets. Students in creative media are taught by published writers. Classes meet at MCC-Blue River.

Music
Vocal and instrumental students join together in a multi-faceted curriculum supplemented by attending performances and master classes. Music students meet at the Music/Arts Institute and as well as take dance classes at an ISD high school.

Theatre
Study a variety of acting techniques, including characterization and improvisation as well as auditioning and performing for peers, family and the community.

Visual Art
Students immerse themselves in painting, drawing and figure composition with trips to local art venues. Visual Art classes meet at MCC-Blue River.
