Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas Visits ISD

Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas visited the ISD Wednesday, November 19, 2025. Our ISD Academies students took the mayor on tours of the Construction Pathway and Culinary Pathway spaces at Van Horn High School and heard student-led presentations from both groups. Mayor Lucas also toured Blue Ridge Bank on the Independence Square where he learned about the partnership between between the bank and Business Academy students. He finished his time in the ISD touring and meeting with students from several other Academy Pathway Programs at Independence Arts & Technology.

Thank you, Mayor, for taking the time to visit the ISD and for your openness to learn about something new. Your visit gave us the opportunity to highlight what’s working well for us, and our students and staff were *so* excited to show you their very best.

This is exactly what it’s all about: professional discourse → purposeful demonstration → productive dialogue.

At the end of the day, we’re united by a shared goal: raising up successful, supported students, no matter their zip code. Thank you for your dedication to and support of public education across the metro.
