This page explains the differences between visitors and types of volunteers, as well as outlines the process for those interested in serving
Visitors
Visitor - a parent, relative, or guardian who visits a school for a public or private event involving a student who is the individual’s child, close relative, or for whom the individual is the guardian; also includes other individuals who are under the supervision of a school employee. Visitors do not supervise students.
Requires completion of Raptor Screening, done at student’s school.Examples of visitor activities:
- visit a student at the building for lunch
- attend a student assembly
- visit for a class party
Supervised Volunteers
Supervised Volunteer - may participate in activities and field trips with a teacher or designated staff member present. Supervised volunteers may supervise students while in the presence or district employee.
Requires completion of Raptor Screening and Confidentiality Agreement, done at student's school.Examples of supervised volunteer activities:
- some field trips
- class activities with a teacher present
- unpaid classroom assistants working in the presence of district staff
- playground, library, or cafeteria assistants
- one-day event chaperones
- door greeters.
Screened Volunteers
Screened Volunteer - any individual serving in an unpaid position who may be periodically left alone with students.
Requires completion of Raptor Screening, Confidentiality Agreement, and Volunteer Packet at student’s school

a criminal background check and the submission of fingerprints

Examples of screened volunteer activities:
- some field trips
- study trips
- overnight events chaperone
- sponsor or assist with extracurricular club
Screened Volunteer Requirements
There are five (5) steps involved in becoming a Screened Volunteer in the ISD. Once ISD Human Resources receives all of your screen results, the Building Secretary will reach out to you.

1. Raptor Screening This is a process you will do at the building where you scan your ID. |
4. Background Check and Fingerprints through MSHP
Once you fill out the registration and go to a location to have your fingerprints done, ISD will receive the results within 48 hours. |
2. Confidentiality Agreement This is a form you will sign. |
5. Family Care Safety Registry
You will get your results (email or mail) from the state in about a week. Please give them to the Building Secretary. If you prefer, you can download and print a paper form and mail it in. Directions are on the form: |
