2nd Grade Music
The following learning targets represent the major concepts studied and assessed in this course.
Semester 1
Unit 1: Connect with Music
- Students will learn how music relates to daily life including special events, books, artwork, science and/or other subjects.
- Students will learn how to make musical choices based on their personal knowledge and skills.
Unit 2: Respond to Music
- Students will learn how to describe music that they hear using words such as pitched, unpitched, crescendo, decrescendo, accelerando, ritardando, introduction, verse, and refrain/chorus.
- Students will learn how to explain how characteristics of a song might be appropriate for a story or event.
Semester 2
Unit 3: Perform Music
- Students will learn to perform music from different regions and countries.
- Students will learn how to read and perform simple rhythmic and melodic patterns.
- Students will learn how to judge a performance and provide feedback.
Unit 4: Create Music
- Students will learn to improvise and compose simple rhythms or melodies.
- Students will learn how to record their own musical ideas using written symbols or recording technology such as audio or video.
