And Now It's Spring

Published by Family Friend Poems on 04/11/2018

The grass is green across the hill,
But yellow blooms the daffodil.
It's sunshine on a little stalk,
A friendly flower, I bet they talk...

Of little kids, too long inside
They burst outdoors to play and hide.
Tracking mud and bringing bugs.
Look, there's footprints on the rug!

Tiny whirlwinds, these little tykes,
They skin their knees while riding bikes.
They rip and roar, they're running wild!
What fun it is to be a child.

It grows warmer every day.
Shoo the children out to play!
Pick the flowers, play in mud.
Too much rain, here comes a flood!

My snowy, winter days are gone.
I mourn them, but I hear a song
Of birds in trees; wind chimes ring.
I guess it might as well be spring!

Reading Passages

Hoodwink and Peanut (2-Syllable, Vowel Team Syllable Type Words)

Hoodwink tied his boat in the harbor. His friend, Peanut, saw a rainbow.
Hoodwink looked at the rainbow and saw a sunray come through. Hoodwink wrote in a notebook what he and Peanut had seen.
When Hoodwink and Peanut finished writing, they saw a mermaid. The mermaid was floating while holding a cup of coffee. Hoodwink and Peanut wanted to offer the mermaid a snack. Peanut went to get a teaspoon of honey for her coffee and put some cookies on a saucer.
However, raindrops fell and without notice the mermaid and rainbow faded away into the sunset. Perhaps the mermaid was just a daydream. They have even more to write in their notebook now!

Freeman and his Tweezers (2-Syllable, Vowel Team Syllable Type Words)

Freeman had a huge thorn in his foot. Freeman looked all over for his tweezers.
He checked the storeroom. He peeked into the playhouse. Freeman could not find his tweezers.
Freeman even went to look in the old houseboat, but no tweezers could be found. Freeman looked in the roadhouse. They were not under the footrest. Freeman did not find his tweezers. He found a beehive instead! Could they be in Jan’s playhouse under her bedspread? No tweezers. The tweezers had to be somewhere.
They were in the classroom beneath the teacher’s desk. Freeman found the tweezers and removed the thorn from his sore foot!

Time for Dinner (2-Syllable, Vowel-R Syllable Type Words)

It was a dark stormy night and Bart Garner was bored. He pulled out some paper and a purple marker and began to write a story.
“A brave warrior stood proudly on the wall of his fortress. Armed with his super sonic laser he guarded the kingdom. Suddenly, in the distant horizon a sinister figure appeared. Terror crept up his spine. The soldier raised his weapon and...”
“Bart, time for dinner,” mother called.
Bart places his marker on the desk and scowled. “I’ll return to you, you loser.”
Then, Bart bound out of the room looking forward to finishing the story after dinner.
