Academic Core: English / Language Arts

4 Credits Required

Students must earn four English Language Arts credits to graduate. The pathways below outline suggested course sequences. Students may move between pathways based on ability and choice.


Pathway Options

Option 1: Traditional Pathway

9th Grade
-English (1 credit)
-Optional additional support: Essential Literacy (1 credit)

10th Grade:
-English II (EDC required) – 1 credit

11th Grade
-English III – 1 credit

12th Grade
-English IV – 1 credit


Option 2: Honors / Advanced Pathway

9th Grade
-Honors English I – 1 credit

10th Grade
-Honors English II (EDC required) – 1 credit

11th Grade
-Composition & Reading (.5 credit)
                        -and-
-One of the following (.5 credit):
     -Composition & Reading II
     -Introduction to Literature
     -Creative Writing

12th Grade
Students select one of the following:
-Composition & Reading I (.5 credit) and Composition & Reading II (.5 credit)
-Introduction to Literature (.5 credit) and Composition & Reading II (.5 credit)
-Creative Writing (.5 credit)
-AP Literature & Composition – 1 credit
