Painting I

Students will experiment, plan and make multiple works of art and design that explore a personally meaningful theme, idea or concept. Choose from a range of materials and traditional and contemporary artistic practices, following or breaking established conventions, to plan the making of multiple works of art and design based on a theme, idea, or concept. 

Semester

September - Unit 1: Monochromatic value painting 

  • Introductions 
  • Classroom Expectations/Guidelines 
  • Students will complete projects that build and strengthen their painting mixing and painting techniques.

October - Unit 2: Shading 

  • Introduce mixed media and tools. 
  • Go over Blending Techniques. 
  • Demonstrate value 

November - Unit 3: Observational 

  • Set up Still Life 

  • Go over thumbnail sketches, discuss composition and drawing proportions. 

  • Start incorporating value paying attention to light source and shadows. 

December

  • Unit 4: Imagination: Keyhole aspiration 
  • Unit 5: Skeleton rendering 
  • Finals Week
