Semester 1

Unit 1: Introduction to French

  • Explain the benefits of learning French.
  • Identify and use the French alphabet.
  • Count and use numbers through 70.
  • Use common greetings and goodbyes.
  • Introduce oneself and others.
  • Ask and answer questions about age.
  • Use common classroom questions and expressions.
  • Identify and use dates and the calendar.
  • Complete a French music project.
  • Recognize and use cognates.

Unit 2: School Subjects, Classroom Objects, Colors & Articles

  • Identify and use classroom object vocabulary.
  • Conjugate and use the verb avoir (to have).
  • Apply adjective agreement rules.
  • Identify and use color vocabulary.
  • Form and answer questions in French.
  • Interpret and use common French idioms.
  • Use il y a (there is/there are) correctly.
  • Apply prepositions in context.
  • Identify and discuss school subjects.
  • Compare schools in France and the United States.

Unit 3: Family

  • Identify and use family vocabulary.
  • Create and present a family tree project.
  • Conjugate and use the verb être (to be).

Unit 4: Regular -ER Verbs

  • Explore spring holiday traditions and cultural practices in French-speaking countries.
