The following learning targets represent the major concepts studied and assessed in this course.

Year Long Course

Unit 1: Welcome

  • Identify and use cognates to build vocabulary.
  • Apply subject pronouns correctly in speaking and writing.
  • Review and use nouns in context.

Unit 2: Review

  • Review and use the French alphabet.
  • Count and use numbers through 100.
  • Use common greetings and goodbyes.
  • Introduce oneself and others.
  • Ask and answer common classroom questions.
  • Use dates and calendar vocabulary.
  • Review and apply the verbs être (to be), avoir (to have), aller (to go), and faire (to do/to make).
  • Review and conjugate regular -ER verbs.
  • Review and apply past tense structures.

Unit 3: Past Tense Review

  • Review the past tense with avoir and être.
  • Review and apply irregular past participles.
  • Use past tense structures accurately in communication.

Unit 4: La Cuisine Francophone

  • Identify and use cooking and recipe vocabulary.
  • Review direct and indirect object pronouns.
  • Review and apply partitive articles.
  • Explore French culture through the film Ratatouille.
  • Communicate about food, recipes, and culinary traditions in French.

Unit 5: New Year / Kings Day

  • Set goals and make resolutions in French.
  • Use holiday-related vocabulary.
  • Strengthen verb conjugation and verb continuity skills.
  • Explore New Year and Kings Day traditions in Francophone cultures.

Unit 6: Childhood

  • Identify and use childhood vocabulary.
  • Sequence events using appropriate transitional language.
  • Conjugate and apply the imperfect tense.
  • Compare and contrast past tense and imperfect tense usage.
  • Explore fairy tales and children's literature from the Francophone world.

Unit 7: Manie Musicale

  • Use comparative vocabulary to express opinions and preferences.
  • Apply correct conjugation and article agreement.
  • Express likes and dislikes using appropriate vocabulary and grammar.
  • Participate in class discussions about music and culture.

Unit 8: La Famille Bélier / Les Intouchables
