Personal Fitness and Wellness
The following learning targets represent the major concepts studied and assessed in this course.
Unit 1: Fitness
- Students will be able to identify why being physically active is beneficial for their health.
- Students will be able to identify the 5 components of physical fitness.
Unit 2: Warm Up/Cool Down Techniques
- Students will be able to explain the importance of a warm up and cool down
- Students will be able to use various movement concepts to perform a warm up
Unit 3: Cardiovascular Training
- Students will be able to identify and differentiate between many different types of cardiovascular training.
- Students will be able to demonstrate a variety of exercises.
- Students will be able to perform a variety of exercises to complete a workout.
Unit 4: Strength
- Students will be able to identify exercises that will increase their strength.
- Students will be able to demonstrate strength based exercises.
Unit 5: Flexibility Training
- Students will be able to identify primary movers.
- Students will be able to demonstrate correct technique for stretching primary movers.
Unit 6: Lifetime Sports and Activities
- Students will be able to identify various benefits to lifetime sports and activities.
- Students will be able to list various sports and activities.
- Students will be able to perform various skills and movements in activities.
Unit 7: Review
- Students will be able to create their own game with fundamentals and rules.
- Students will be able to create their own workout routine incorporating each type of biomotor ability (strength training, flexibility, cardiovascular endurance, muscular endurance, agility)
