Advanced Fashion
The following learning targets represent the major concepts studied and assessed in this course.
Semester 1
Unit 1: Assessment-Construction Skills Portfolio
- Students will be able to sew various stitches, including top stitched, welt, flat-felled and french
- Students will be able to sew various seam finishes, including zig-zag, turned and stitched and stitched and pinked
- Students will be able to correctly sew a dart
- Students will be able to sew on various fasteners, including snaps, hook and eyes and buttons
- Students will be able to correctly insert a zipper into fabric
Unit 2: Redesign
- Students will create a design for a garment using an existing article(s) of clothing.
- Students will deconstruct a garment.
- Students will construct a fashion item using the construction skills they have learned.
Unit 3: Merchandising and Marketing
- Students will identify common sales appeal tactics for merchandising.
- Students will review a fashion item, using terminology learned in class.
- Students will evaluate their fashion interests.
- Students will design a merchandising display based on a researched style.
Unit 4: Careers
- Students will research careers in fashion
- Students will compete in a Designer Challenge,
- Students will research and construct Merchandising Displays
Unit 5: Fashion Drawing and Design
- Students will practice drawing fashion figures,
- Students will use various materials to create textured fashion figures
- Students will explore fashion throughout history and show their findings in a fashion history poster.
