Advanced Interior Design
The following learning targets represent the major concepts studied and assessed in this course.
Semester 1
Unit 1: Early Home Review
- Evaluate Housing and design concepts and theories, including green design, in relation to available resources and options.
Unit 2: History of Architecture
- Analyze design and development of architecture, interiors and furnishings through the ages
Unit 3: House Design
- Apply design knowledge, skills, processes, and theories and oral, written and visual presentation skills to communicate design ideas.
Unit 4: Lighting
- Apply residential and commercial interior design knowledge, skills and processes to meet specific design needs.
Unit 5: Perspective
- Demonstrate design, construction document reading; and space planning skills required for the housing, interior design and furnishing industries
Semester 2
Unit 6:Furniture Creation
- Prepare sketches, elevations, perspectives and renderings of furniture using appropriate media.
Unit 7: Flooring
- Prepare sketches, elevations, perspectives and renderings of flooring using appropriate media.
Unit 8: ADA Housing
- Utilize applicable building codes and universal design regulations and guidelines in space planning.
Unit 9:Model Homes
- Draft an interior space to scale using architecture symbols.
- Arrange furniture placement with reference to principles of design, traffic flow, activity, and existing architectural features.
- Apply building codes, universal design guidelines, and regulations in space planning and arrangement of furniture and furnishings
Unit 10: School Remodel
- Select appropriate studio tools.
- Prepare sketches, elevations, perspectives, and renderings using appropriate media.
- Prepare visual presentations including legends, keys, and schedules.
Unit 11: Careers in Design
- Explain the roles and functions of individuals engaged in housing and interior design careers.
- Analyze career paths and opportunities for employment and entrepreneurial endeavors.
- Summarize education, training, and credentialing requirements and opportunities for career paths in housing and interior design.
