Introduction to Education
The following learning targets represent the major concepts studied and assessed in this course.
Semester 1:
Unit 1: The Teaching Profession
- Explain the roles and functions of individuals engaged in early childhood, education, and services
- Analyze opportunities for employment, entrepreneurial endeavors, and emerging careers.
- Analyze potential career choices to determine the knowledge, skills, attitudes, and opportunities associated with each career.
Unit 2: The History of Teaching
- Apply professional ethical standards as accepted by the recognized professional organizations.
- Implement federal, state, and local standards, policies, regulations, and laws that affect children, families, and programs.
- Demonstrate enthusiasm, initiative, and commitment to program goals and improvements.
Unit 3: Understanding Children’s Needs
- Analyze cultural and environmental influences when assessing children’s development.
- Analyze abilities and needs of children and their effects on children’s growth and development.
- Document symptoms of child abuse and neglect and use appropriate procedures to report suspected abuse or neglect to the designated authorities.
Unit 4: Development of Children
- Implement strategies to teach children health, safety, and sanitation habits.
Unit 5: Diverse Learners
- Analyze the effects of early childhood education, and services occupations on local, state, national, and global economies.
- Demonstrate integration of curriculum and instruction to meet children’s developmental needs and interests.
Unit 6: Careers in Education
- Summarize education and training requirements and opportunities for career path in early childhood education and services
- Demonstrate problem-solving skills with children.
Unit 7: Teaching Concepts
- Demonstrate integration of curriculum and instruction to meet children’s developmental needs and interests.
- Manage physical space to maintain a learning environment that is safe and healthy and encourages physical activity.
- Apply developmentally appropriate behavior guidelines for behavior.
