Semester 1
Unit 1: Introduction to Fundamentals
- Review rhythms and notes on the staff
- Learn instrument fundamentals
- Learn care and maintenance of instruments
- Develop listening and evaluation skills
- Develop note and rhythm reading skills in performance
Unit 2: Winter Concert
- Perform a variety of rhythms on instruments
- Create and perform original rhythms
- Perform concert music independently and in ensemble
- Apply rhythm reading and counting skills
Semester 2
Unit 3: Spring Performance
- Analyze repertoire for technical considerations
- Connect with the history and meaning of music
- Demonstrate collaboration, teamwork, and responsibility
- Expand rhythm and note reading skills
- Perform spring concert music independently and in ensemble
