The following learning targets represent the major concepts studied and assessed in this course.

Semester 1

Unit 1: Introduction to Fundamentals

  • Review rhythms and notes on the staff
  • Learn instrument fundamentals
  • Learn care and maintenance of instruments
  • Develop listening and evaluation skills
  • Develop note and rhythm reading skills in performance

Unit 2: Winter Concert

  • Perform a variety of rhythms on instruments
  • Create and perform original rhythms
  • Perform concert music independently and in ensemble
  • Apply rhythm reading and counting skills

Semester 2

Unit 3: Spring Performance

  • Analyze repertoire for technical considerations
  • Connect with the history and meaning of music
  • Demonstrate collaboration, teamwork, and responsibility
  • Expand rhythm and note reading skills
  • Perform spring concert music independently and in ensemble
