Choir (7th & 8th Grade)

The following learning targets represent the major concepts studied and assessed in this course.

All units are taught simultaneously throughout the year.

Unit 1: Rehearsal and Technique

• Develop proper posture and breathing techniques
• Follow rehearsal norms and procedures
• Practice proper diction and vowel production
• Navigate and mark musical scores

Unit 2: Music Theory and Notation

• Develop melodic and rhythmic sight-reading skills
• Navigate basic music forms
• Interpret musical expressions, articulations, and markings

Unit 3: Listening and Evaluating

• Practice self-evaluation
• Evaluate concerts and performances
• Listen to and evaluate other choirs
• Explore different responses to music
• Demonstrate respectful audience behavior

Unit 4: Performance

• Demonstrate proper posture and stage presence
• Show understanding of the music being performed
• Express meaning of lyrics through facial expressions and body language
