The following learning targets represent the major concepts studied and assessed in this course.
Semester 1
Fitness Foundations
- Identify the five components of health-related fitness
- Adjust physical activity based on fitness level
- Participate in regular moderate to vigorous physical activity
Body Systems & Exercise
- Describe how muscles work in pairs
- Understand differences between static and dynamic stretching
- Apply principles such as the overload principle (FITT formula)
- Monitor heart rate and effort levels
Motivation & Wellness
- Identify intrinsic and extrinsic motivation
- Recognize lifelong enjoyment activities
- Participate safely and consistently in physical activity
Semester 2
Nutrition & Weight Management
- Read and record data related to nutrition and weight management
- Maintain a food log
- Understand the relationship between exercise, nutrition, and health
Goal Setting & Self Care
- Identify and apply goal-setting processes
- Develop short-term fitness goals
- Reflect on participation and progress
Fitness Planning
- Design a workout including warm-up and cool-down
- Differentiate aerobic and anaerobic exercise
- Identify health-related vs. skill-related fitness
- Track personal fitness data such as steps
