Strength & Conditioning (7th & 8th Grade)

The following learning targets represent the major concepts studied and assessed in this course.

Semester 1

Fitness Components & Training Principles

  • Identify and compare health-related and skill-related fitness components
  • Apply the overload principle (FITT formula)
  • Design a personal workout plan

Safety & Cross Training

  • Implement safe strength and conditioning protocols
  • Plan and participate in cross-training programs
  • Demonstrate correct technique in selected activities

Nutrition & Exercise

  • Develop strategies for balancing nutrition and physical activity
  • Understand the relationship between nutrition and health risk factors

Semester 2

Kinesiology

  • Identify muscular and skeletal structures
  • Design programs to improve personal fitness levels

Workout Design & Stress Management

  • Create warm-up and cool-down routines
  • Practice stress management techniques (deep breathing, yoga, Tai Chi)
  • Participate in varied strength and endurance activities
