The ISD believes in leveraging technology to support student growth both in and out of the classroom. Our Chromebooks provide students with access to digital tools and resources that enhance learning, collaboration, and creativity.

Chromebook Details
  • Who uses Chromebooks: All students in ISD grades K-12th grades use a Chromebook as part of our curriculum. Students have iPads for group use in Early Education.

  • Take-Home vs In-School Use: High school students are permitted to take devices home to complete assignments, with full responsibility for the device. These students are expected to bring their ISD-issued Chromebook to school daily.

  • Ownership & Responsibility: Chromebooks remain the property of ISD. Students and families are responsible for care, proper usage, and returning the device (with charger) when required (end of year, when transferring or graduating).

Technology & Devices
  • Brands & Models:
    • The ISD uses Dell and Lenovo Chromebooks.
    • We use the "cart model" in Elementary and Middle School. Elementary schools have classroom carts stocked with a Chromebook for every student. Middle schools provide Chromebook carts in homerooms, ensuring each student has a device to use and carry with them throughout the school day.
    • Middle School students may also check out their Chromebooks at the end of the day - or the end of the week (for the weekend) - to do school work.
    • High Schools students are assigned Chromebooks at their buildings at the start the school year. Students are responsible for turning Chromebooks in at the end of the school year. Summer Success uses the Middle School cart model for Middle and High School students.
    • The ISD has more than 1,500 iPads across the district, used by both students and staff for curriculum.
    • All certified staff (teachers, other educator positions) have Dell laptops.
  • Replacement & Rotation: To ensure all students have reliable devices, older models are periodically replaced. ISD reviews device condition and plans for purchasing replacements as needed.
Usage Expectations & Rules
  • Acceptable Use: Chromebooks are to be used for school-approved learning activities. Usage must comply with ISD’s Acceptable Use Policy and what is outlined in Student-Parent handbooks. Parents/students acknowledge this information via digital signature during online registration.
  • Care & Maintenance: Students should keep devices clean, avoid exposure to extreme temperatures, protect screens, avoid placing heavy objects on top, and transport them safely.
  • Charging: Chromebooks should be fully charged before coming to school. Students are expected to maintain battery power; chargers are part of the issued device and should be cared for as well.
Support & Repairs
  • Troubleshooting: If the Chromebook has issues, students should first attempt basic steps (reboot, ensure internet, etc.). For persistent problems, submit a repair request to the ISD Technology Help Desk.
  • Damage, Loss, or Theft: Students / families may be responsible for repair or replacement costs if damage is due to neglect, misuse, or accidental loss. Chromebooks must be returned in good condition as required.
  • Loaner Devices: ISD maintains limited loaner devices for temporary use when a device is in for repair, where available.
Family & Student Resources
  • User Guides & Tutorials: How to use a Chromebook, managing Google accounts, saving work, etc.
  • Agreements & Sign-Up Forms: Students (and parents/guardians) are required to sign the Chromebook Use Agreement / handbook as part of receiving a device.
  • Training & Support: Workshops or videos for students and families on best practices, digital citizenship, online safety, and maximizing learning with Chromebooks.
