Your student's Attendance matters to us. Regular school attendance is essential to student success, and we are committed to helping your student get there. When students are present and engaged, they are more likely to achieve academic goals, build strong relationships, and develop important lifelong skills.

ISD Attendance Expectations

  • Students are expected to attend school daily and arrive on time.
  • Parents/guardians must notify the school of absences.
  • Excessive absences may trigger interventions or referrals for support.

Consistent attendance helps students keep up with lessons, participate in class discussions, and develop positive habits that lead to long-term achievement.

Reporting an Absence

If your student will be absent, please notify the school office as early as possible. You may:

  • Call the front office or attendance line of your student's school
  • Reply to the ParentSquare absence notification, with the explanation of your student's absence
  • Send a written note when your child returns

Please include your child’s name, grade, date of absence, and reason for the absence.

Excused vs. Unexcused Absences

The list below are examples of what is considered "excused" or "unexcused."

Excused Unexcused
Illness Missing the bus
Family emergency Oversleeping
Religious observance Travel not approved in advance
Medical or dental appointments (with documentation) Lack of transportation
Pre-approved educational activities Absence without parental communication

Tardiness and Early Check-Outs

Being on time is just as important as being present. Arriving late or leaving early disrupts learning for your student and the entire class.

  • Three (3) tardies may count as one unexcused absence.
  • Early check-outs should be limited to emergencies or appointments.

What Happens When Attendance Becomes a Concern?

The district will partner with families to address attendance barriers and provide support. If absences become excessive:

  1. Parents will be contacted by the school.
  2. An attendance meeting may be scheduled.
  3. Referral to student support services may occur.
  4. Chronic absenteeism may be reported to the appropriate authorities.

Tips for Supporting Good Attendance

  1. Establish a consistent morning and bedtime routine
  2. Schedule appointments outside school hours when possible
  3. Avoid extended vacations during the school year
  4. Reach out early if your family is facing challenges affecting attendance

We are here to help. If you're facing challenges getting your child to school regularly, please contact your student's teacher, Principal, or Family School Liaison. Our goal is to support families and remove obstacles to daily attendance!
