History

The Independence School District (ISD) has a rich history of serving the educational needs of the community since its founding in 18??. Established in the early 19th century by ???, ISD has grown alongside the city of Independence, Missouri, and has played a key role in shaping the lives of generations of students.

One of the most notable figures associated with the ISD is Harry S. Truman, the 33rd President of the United States. Truman, a lifelong resident of Independence, attended local schools, and his legacy continues to inspire the community today. His commitment to education and public service serves as a model for our district, emphasizing the importance of leadership, integrity, and service to others. In honor of his legacy, the district proudly supports the Truman High School, where students are encouraged to follow in his footsteps and strive for excellence in both academics and civic engagement.
