Parents As Teachers is a free program provided through the Independence School District that provides parents with child development knowledge, parenting support, the understanding of child development and the wellbeing of the family through personal home visits, developmental screenings, group connections, and resource referrals.
Parents As Teachers is for all families with children aged prenatal through Kindergarten entry that reside within the Independence School District Boundaries. Our mission is to promote the optimal early development, learning and health of children by supporting and engaging their parents and caregivers.
There are currently four certified Parent Educators working with families in ISD. Between the four of them, they have a total of over 80 years of experience working in the Parents As Teachers program. Those years represent over 1000 hours of professional development training to maintain their certified Parent Educator status.
