Summer Success builds on students’ educational foundations with learning experiences designed to mirror the school year and help students head confidently into the next grade level. Breakfast and lunch are provided at no cost.

Early Education

Children currently enrolled in Early Education services can participate in Summer School during the month of June at Sunshine and Hanthorn.

Transportation is not available for Early Education programs (with the exception of ECSE).

There may be costs associated with the Early Education program.

Kindergarten

We welcome students entering kindergarten for the 2026-2027 school year to enroll in Summer Success. You will first register your incoming kindergarten student for the 2026-2027 school year. At the completion of your registration for the upcoming school year, you will have the option to also register for Summer Success. Additional information regarding registration will be shared through ISD robocalls, emails and on this webpage.

7th & 8th Grade

Students who wish to add an elective to their schedule for the 2026-2027 school year may complete PE / Health for credit during Summer Success. This allows most students to choose two elective course options for their schedule in the upcoming school year. Summer school is condensed into one month. Any day missed is equivalent to missing three regular school days. Students taking P.E. and Health for credit during Summer Success may not exceed two absences.

Transportation

Transportation will be provided for students who qualify and register for transportation services during online registration by April 24th. Bus routes and stops may differ from those used during the regular school year. Parents are encouraged to escort their child to and from the bus stop. Bus passes will be sent after the registration deadline. Transportation cannot be guaranteed during the first week of Summer Success for students registered after April 24th. Monday Fun Days & Kids' Safari

Monday Fun Days are available on June 1st, June 8th , and June 22nd for students in grades K-8 for a fee. This is care on the Non-School Mondays during Summer Success. There is also Before and After school care Tuesday-Friday for an additional fee. To enroll for Monday Fun Days or for Before and After school care, please contact your home school Site Coordinator or call (816) 521-5508.

High School

ISD's Summer Success (for students entering 9-12) will be offered Tuesday - Friday between May 27th - June 26th at Truman High School. A few courses will also be offered at Van Horn High School, William Chrisman High School, and Nowlin Middle School. Transportation between locations will be provided. Breakfast and lunch will be provided at no cost. Each day is divided into two sessions:

*Session 1: 7:15 a.m. - 10:20 a.m.
*Session 2: 10:30 a.m. - 1:55 p.m.

Course Offerings (9th-12th)

Students entering 9th-12th grade will find the following course offerings available for our 2026 summer session. If you have specific questions regarding credits or how this may affect your graduation, please contact your counselor. Students are allowed to take one class per session (with the exception of full credit courses) and can make up the equivalent of one credit. Grade levels are reflective of student grade level for Fall 2026.

Attendance

Summer school is condensed into one month. Any day missed is equivalent to missing 4.25 regular school days.

If a student misses more than two class periods, they will be dropped from that class and lose transportation for that session. Regardless of the reason.

Students who are going to be gone for a school sponsored trip (i.e. cheerleading camp, band trip, etc.) will need to work with their administrator prior to summer school for approval.

Transportation

Transportation for Summer Success will be provided for those students who qualify and register for transportation services by May 6th. Bus transportation will run prior to the 7:15 a.m. start and after the 1:55 p.m. dismissal. Buses will not transport students to/from home between sessions. If you qualify for transportation, you will receive your child’s bus pass prior to the start of summer school. For questions about bus transportation, please call (816) 521-5335.
