Four-Day School Week

Our Why

The ISD Board of Education voted in December 2022 to move to a four-day school week. Leadership spent the next eight months planning, in preparation for the transition, which began at the start of the 2023-23 school year. In the midst of a nationwide teacher shortage and with educators consistently underpaid, the ISD sought a creative alternative to attract and retain teachers despite limited funding for additional compensation. However, we remained committed to keeping students and families at the center of every decision.

That’s why we safeguarded instructional time and built in support services—childcare, meals, and other options—on our fifth day, Mondays.

Fifth-Day Opportunities

Overview

School is in session most Tuesdays - Fridays.

In order to keep the same amount of instructional time as a traditional five-day week, we lengthened the school day by 35 minutes, and there are some Mondays that school is in session, as decided by the ISD Calendar Committee (made up of parents, students, staff, and Board Members.

Instructional Hours

The state requires at least 1,044 hours of student attendance each school year.

The ISD offers 1,122 instructional hours, which is more than 98.5% of all school districts in Missouri.
