William Chrisman Theatre Presenting ‘Pride and Prejudice’ Jan 29-31

13The William Chrisman Theatre Department will present its production of ‘Pride and Prejudice’ and step back into the early 19th century January 29-31.

The theatre department has been working diligently towards the success of Pride and Prejudice since mid-November when the cast list was introduced.

‘I was very shocked [when I got my part],” said senior Jenna Budd who plays Jane Bennet. “I had to pinch myself to make sure I wasn’t dreaming.”

Due to Christmas break and Christmas concerts in the auditorium, their work was limited until the start of the new year.

Once students returned on January 7, the cast and crew had two weeks to get everything up to the level of perfection required for a successful show.

“Everyone worked really hard and was diligent,” Budd said. “I am so happy with the work.”

The cast of the show was expected to have all their lines and blocking perfected upon return to the new semester.

“I was very surprised when I got the role of Elizabeth Bennet, I did not expect it whatsoever,” said senior Allie Weston. “I still need to get some of my lines, I have almost 200. It’s stressful but worth it.”

The cast and crew is excited for opening night.

“The show is amazing,” said senior Ian Rhoades who plays Charles Bingley. “I was so excited when I got my part especially since it is the first real play I’ve done here.”

Tickets for Pride and Prejudice are $5 in advance which can be bought or reserved over the phone  (816) 521-5355.  Tickets are $6 at the door.

The theatre department has also teamed with Project Grad who will host a dinner theatre on Saturday night. The dinner will begin at 6 p.m., an hour before the start of the show. Those tickets are $10.

The show will introduce the prideful Mr. Darcy (Ryan Thompson), daunting Mr. Wickham (Smith Oyler), charming Mr. Bingley (Ian Rhoades), and the unsettling Mr. Collins (Tim Paxton)  in their pursuit of the Bennet daughters.

The show unfolds to focus on the independent Elizabeth Bennet and her prejudice against the rich Mr. Darcy who she believes to be too proud and arrogant.

“This is a classic piece and you should feel lucky to have the opportunity to see it,” said Weston.
