Posted November 12, 2015

Truman High School Senior Lexi Hart was one of four finalists for the 2015 Evelyn Gates Award, given to the top high school volleyball player in the Kansas City area. Hart captured the Gates trophy in 2014, becoming the first junior to win the award in its 12 year history.

Hart’s volleyball career at Truman may be over, but her college career is just beginning. The three-time all-state volleyball standout signed a letter of intent November 11 to play for the University of Minnesota- currently ranked fourth in the nation.

Gates was a pioneer in women’s sports in the Kansas City area as a player and an official. She personified the positive influence desired in all young athletes and paved the way for future generations.

Oak Park High School’s Orie Agbaji won this year’s Gates Award. KMBC9’s Karen Kornacki emceed the award ceremony at the northland high school.
