Posted March 2, 2017

The Van Horn High School Health Occupation Students of America (HOSA) biomedical team received first place at the Healthe Foundations competition at Cerner Corporation. Congratulations to students Anna Bogart, Jessica Estrada, Lauren Hopkins, Annie Houston Jurado, Ana Mejia and Alliyah Tripp.

The Van Horn team diagnosed and provided medical options for a fictional 17-year-old patient who had ventricular fibrillation, a leading cause of sudden cardiac death. The team worked together as a group of cardiac healthcare professionals and spoke in front of a panel of judges concerning their patient’s prognosis and treatment options.

Chapter sponsor Debbie Cox expressed her pride about the award, “This team of future healthcare students were poised and professional throughout the competition, and are all active members of our HOSA-Future Health Professionals chapter at Van Horn. They have a bright future ahead!”
