A Message From ISD Superintendent Dr. Dale Herl

Posted June 4, 2020

Dear Independence School District staff and families,

Our most important work in the Independence School District centers around the safety, well-being and education of our students. Like so many of you, we are processing and saddened by recent events. Our role as educators and administrators is to continue our efforts to listen, learn and support.

Racism has no place in our schools, our community or our world. We condemn racism and violence. Even though school is not in session, we want to be clear that we stand with our staff and students and are here to support you.

The Independence School District provides training for all staff members in Trauma Informed Care, creating an environment of empathy and understanding with awareness and respect for all. The ISD is committed to continuing to educate students in a safe learning environment that is free from racism and violence.

We have learned powerful lessons over the last several months through our COVID response about our strength and resilience as a school community. We know that we are stronger together because of our diversity. As we move forward with open minds and hearts, we will continue to listen and learn with inspired focus on inclusion and hope.
